Aarong sets Guinness World Record for world’s largest craft store
Aarong, the fashion and lifestyle brand of BRAC, has officially received the Guinness World Records title for operating the world’s largest craft store, recognising the scale and craft-focused experience of its flagship outlet in Dhanmondi.
The announcement was made at a ceremony in Dhaka where the Guinness World Records certificate was formally unveiled. The event also featured the premiere of a music video showcasing the flagship store, with Armeen Musa and the Ghashphoring Choir performing Rabindranath Tagore’s song “Anondoloke.”
Tamara Hasan Abed, managing director of BRAC Enterprises, said the recognition highlights the work of thousands of artisans whose craftsmanship sustains Bangladesh’s heritage and livelihoods.
“This is more than a record-it recognises the hands behind the craft,” she said, adding that expanding the platform for traditional crafts also strengthens economic opportunities for artisans across the country.
Aarong’s Dhanmondi flagship outlet was designed to showcase Bangladesh’s craft heritage at a large scale through installations and curated spaces reflecting traditional artistry.
Among the notable installations is Santal Gaon, a pottery installation created by nearly 100 potter families. Another centrepiece is The Great Arena, a 44-foot Nakshi Kantha crafted by around 250 artisans over six months and displayed across four floors.
The Guinness World Records recognition also marks the start of a nationwide celebration, with pop-up gallery experiences planned across 10 Aarong outlets to highlight the story behind the record and Bangladesh’s craft heritage.
Founded as a social enterprise initiative of BRAC, Aarong works with more than 87,000 artisans across Bangladesh, supporting livelihoods while preserving traditional crafts.
